Press Release: Ron Paul Wins Big Ron Paul Wins Big in First New Hampshire Straw Poll
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 7, 2007
ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – Presidential candidate Ron Paul today won the Coalition for New Hampshire Taxpayers (CNHT) straw poll at their annual picnic in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. Dr. Paul received 182 of 294 votes cast, or 65 percent. In second place was Rudy Giuliani with 24 votes, or 8 percent.
"Today's strong victory is further proof that Dr. Paul's message is resonating throughout New Hampshire," said campaign manager Lew Moore. "Dr. Paul is the only candidate in this race truly dedicated to smaller government and lower taxes for all Americans."
CNHT is a statewide, grassroots organization dedicated to reducing the size of government at all levels, stopping judicial activism, providing students and parents with a choice of educational opportunities, expanding job markets, and protecting property rights.

Not to rain on the parade-I love this news-but how influential/important is the group that participated in the poll? I kept seeing anti-Ron Paul whiners on digg trying to marginalize the group/the poll. i think this just shows that there is alot of grassroots support for Ron Paul...not statewide...yet.

Among Republican voters, it's a semi-important group from what I understand, at least for economic conservatives.
The straw poll shows basically the same thing that his online support does: that he is doing very well among people who are very active in politics and paying close attention to the election. Among people in ordinary opinion polls who aren't yet paying much attention to the election, he still has very low name recognition, and many of the people who do know who he is don't yet take him seriously, but most of them don't have their minds firmly made up.

What I am dancin' about is the overall impression the utter dominance of the RP vote. 65% is huge. When the NH news media reports this straw poll, the people in NH who have yet to look at our candidate will wonder what is it about RP that makes him so attractive to so many. Then they will go out of their way to find out.
