Ron Paul does not endorse the Welfare State. He believes as Americans it is our duty to be charitable to our neighbors.
At a time where gas prices are hovering near the high price of $3 a gallon. The Kansas City Star reported this Monday Aug 13th, "The Labor Department’s most recent inflation data showed that U.S. food prices rose by 4.1 percent for the 12 months ending in June. But a deeper look at the numbers reveals that the price of milk, eggs and other essentials in the American diet are rising by double digits."
Our countries financial conditions are deteriorating and people are getting hurt. There are 2448 distressed properties in Douglas County. What does this mean? That 2448 families are in danger or have already lost their homes. How many more families in Omaha are on the brink of losing their homes and have to cut back on their food budget just to keep a roof over their head?
I suggest that as Ron Paul supporters we put our efforts, for one day, behind what Ron Paul believes. It would be a way to help our community and introduce the basic ideals of Ron Paul to a wide audience.
I propose we hold a canned food drive for the Omaha Food Bank. I have an idea of how to do this, but wonder if our group would be interested in participating in such an event.

Before I go to Hy-Vee to submit this proposal we need to decide as a group which Saturday would be the best for the majority? Sept. 1st, 8th, 15th or 22nd? The reason it is down the road a bit is so the radio public service announcement can be recorded and have a least a week to air on local radio stations before the event.
I just found out that the Peony Park Hy-Vee was the collection center for the WOWT Food Drive this past June. So if they don't want to do this we need to find another high traffic location. Any ideas?
Brian, thanks for offer of the use of your canopies. ManofVirtues cinder block idea to hold down the canopies is great. If we use both tents we'll need eight. Does anyone have any cinder blocks?
If I'm overlooking something or you have ideas give me a shout.
